UNIFORM GUIDELINES

The Dress Code: The following rules and regulations will guide students as to their expected behavior while attending school.

The Dress Code

The St. Maarten Academy expects every student to show a sense of pride for self and school, a positive attitude towards schooling, proper respect for the staff and a willingness to help develop the institution. The staff will be willing to assist students with any matter related to school life or personal development. Students are urged to consult staff members about their problems. The following rules and regulations will guide students as to their expected behaviour while attending school: 

 

UNIFORMS 

St. Maarten Academy’s Polo shirts and Physical Educationshirts are available at 0-14 Kids. 

Students are required to wear the school’s uniform at all times. Any student who is not in uniform will not be allowed in school. 

Boy's Uniform (Compulsory)

​

  • White polo shirt with S.M.A. school insignia engraved.
    Shirts must be tucked into pants.

  • Only plain white undershirt or gym shirt allowed.
    (No other colours)

  • Navy blue cotton Pants (No Jeans, No other colours)

  • White, black or navy blue socks

  • Only white, navy blue or black closed toe shoes or 
    sneakers with socks are allowed
    (No other colours)

  • Only navy blue school jackets with S.M.A. insignia are allowed. Optional, but advised if a child has to wear a sweater due to illness

  • Black, brown, white, or navy blue belt.
    (No other colours)


PE Uniform (Compulsory)

  •   Blue shorts or blue running pants

  •   White Physical Education (PE) T-shirt 

Acceptable Hairstyles

  • Low business haircuts

  • Boys with long hair: 

       - Must braid or plait backwards (cornrows) or

       - Gather hair neatly in ONE at the nape of the neck.

Strictly Forbidden for Boys

  • Earrings, necklaces, wristbands, rings, long nails

  • Long dreadlocks, long unkempt hair

  • Wigs, open twists, single plaits

  • Designer haircuts (Mohawks, inscriptions in hair, lines, hair colour, beads, any other hair ornaments) 

  • Metal hair picks, caps, head coverings 

  • Gang paraphernalia hats, headbands, hoodies
    (Bandanas, coloured shoelaces, coloured shoes etc.)

  • Cuts/designs in eyebrows, visible tattoos

  • Any form of visible piercings e.g. nose, eyebrows, tongue, eyelids etc.

  • Crocs

  • Accessories: sunglasses during virtual or face to face instructional time.  

Strictly Forbidden for Girls

  • Make-up, Jewellery except for pair of stud earrings

  • Wristbands, anklets, multiple ear piercings, lip/nose/tongue/eye piercing ornaments

  • Cuts/designs in eyebrows 

  • Designer haircuts 

  • Colour hairstyles (only natural hair colours are allowed) and bleached hair

  • Long nails or acrylic nails, visible tattoos

  • False lashes/lash extensions

  • Head coverings, metal hair picks, caps, long dreadlocks, hats, headbands, hoodies 

  • Gang paraphernalia (bandanas, coloured shoelaces, coloured shoes etc.) 

  • Slippers/ crocs/ open-toe shoes/ sandals (unless special written permission is granted on basis of medical evidence)

  • Accessories: sunglasses during virtual or face to face instructional time.   

Girl's Uniform (Compulsory)

  • White polo shirt with S.M.A. school insignia engraved.
    Shirts must be tucked into skirts and pants.

  • Only plain white undershirt or gym shirt are allowed.
    (No other colours)

  • A navy blue all around pleated skirt below (covering) the knees OR long navy blue cotton-polyester pair of pants. These pants must be loose. Tight pants and jeans are strictly forbidden (No other colours). 

  • White, black or navy blue socks

  • Only black low-heeled shoes or black, navy blue or white sneakers are allowed.  No Crocs allowed.
    (If a student has a foot  injury, she needs to provide a doctor’s note  in order to be accepted in school with open toe-shoes, or black sandals).

  • White, black, or navy blue socks.

  • Only navy blue school Jackets with S.M.A. insignia are allowed. Optional, but advised if a child has to wear a sweater due to illness

  • Black, brown, white, or navy blue belt.
    (No other colours)


PE Uniform (Compulsory)

  • White S.M.A. Physical Education T-shirt, 

  • Blue short pants (mid-thigh not shorter) or blue running pants

Other

  • ONLY One pair of stud earrings allowed in the lower earlobes.

  • Black, white, or navy blue hair ornaments. ALL other colours are strictly prohibited.

  • ONLY transparent nail polish colour allowed. ALL other colours are strictly prohibited. 

N.B. Students without Uniform or not adhering to the dress code will not be allowed in school

Birthdays 

 

Students are allowed to wear clothes different from the school’s uniform on birthdays providing these clothes are decent. 

 

Strictly Forbidden

  • Spaghetti strap dresses and blouses, low-neck or low-back  dresses, sleeve-less dresses and tops

  • Tight pants and transparent clothes

  • Sleeveless shirts or off-the-shoulder apparel

  • Short or miniskirts
